Week 3

Daventry 3 v Kettering Rugby 2

1: Stewart Williams

2: David McQuillan

3: Stephen McQuillan

4: James Rogers

5: Terry Welbourne

It's 3rd game of the season and 2nd place Daventry 3 played the role of visitors over at Kettering Rugby Club to play their second team who are currently allocating bottom spot on the league. Daventry keen to keep their 100% start to the season, meanwhile Kettering desperate to turn their unsuccessful run around.

Terry and James got the night going as they played 5th and 4th string and both ended up with victories. Keeping both of their success rates at 100% a piece. Terry started with a close 1st game taking it 9-7, only for him to cruise home and dry through the next two games with a 9-3 and a 9-4. Terry looked confident and his 3-0 result showed this. This leaves Terry with 3 wins so far this season only dropping 1 game.

James playing at 4 started well winning 9-0 in his first game. Only for his opponent to completely change the game and take the 2nd 9-5. James came back on court and took another 9-0 game. All looked well and good. Yet again his opponent was having none of it and took the 4th game 9-7 in a game full of long rallies. Taking it to a stalemate, a winner needed to step up and take the 5th game. Up stepped James to win 9-5 and 3-2 on the night. James maintains his 100% win record for the season also.

The McQuillan's took to the courts at 3rd and 2nd string. Steve playing at 3 took the first 2 games with consistency 9-5 and 9-5. His opponent playing for points and a much needed victory to help Kettering took the 3rd game 9-6. Steve came back on for the fourth only to find himself 8-3 down and his opponent serving for the game. Steve brought it back to 8-8 and taking the game 10-9 for a 3-1 victory also maintaining his 100% start to the season.

Dave playing at 2 had a close fought battle in his first game losing 9-8. Dave who has found himself on the back foot for the season so far found himself further behind when losing the second 9-5. He tried his utmost to steal the 3rd game but luck dried out as he saw his opponent take a much needed 3-0 match to bolster Kettering's points. 3rd game was 9-6 to Kettering, meaning Dave maintains his 100% losing record for the season so far.

Stewart steps up for 1st string, all the work is done and Daventry have another victory, pressure is off. Yet Stewart cruised home with a 3-0 win. The first game was a closely drawn battle winning 9-7. The second game, his opponent clearly thought he could steal this one. Stewart made sure this wasn't the case to take the game 9-8. Pressure was off in the third game as Stewart won 9-4 and earned a comfortable 3 points for Daventry. Also leaving Stewart with a 100% win rate for the season.

The Daventry 3rd team is full of 100% announcements at the moment. Even super sub Simon Kember who appeared at Diana has taken a 100% win rate winning his only game so far. They all count though. Daventry have a 3 wins out of 3 record so far and are hot on the heels of league leaders OW's for the grudge match to appear in 3 weeks time.

James Rogers has earned the right of man of the match tonight in my eyes as he kept fighting for a closely fought battle in the 4th string to come out with a 3-2 win.

Final score of the game was 15-6 in favour of Daventry 3.

Next week Daventry 3 are playing host to a Lings team who are also struggling in the league currently. Let's hope we can maintain the current form and keep the pressure firmly stacked on our opponents.
