3rd Team News and Match Reports

Daventry 3 Vs. Saints 1

1: Stewart Williams

2: David McQuillan

3: Stephen McQuillan

4: James Rogers

5: Terry Welbourne

2nd game of the season and Daventry 3 came out on top for their second win and to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

We had a strong team out and did very well considering this week we managed to arrange for 5 players to turn up.

Terry got us under way and usually a slow starter, stormed off ahead to take the first game. The second game got under way and Terry was taking it to his opponent who seemed to struggle with Terry's tidy shots. Terry took the match 3-0 and sent us in to a well-deserved lead.

James was next up and has recently been suffering with a back injury, went on and played a perfect game. James played incredibly well and made sure his opponent was never in the game or even came close. James took the match 3-0.

With Daventry 6-0 at this point, it seemed a long way back for Saints.

Steve took to the court, full of cold and made sure he took the first game. A lot of mistakes in the second game brought his opponent right back into the mix with Saints waning their first point of the night. With it stalemate at 1-1, Steve fired into a 2-1 lead in order to try and seal Daventry's victory. His opponent was having none of it and brought it level to 2-2 in a close 4th game. The final game and Steve came through the 5th game with a 9-0 victory, meaning the score finished 3-2. Daventry 9-2 Saints.

Dave meanwhile was playing at second string tonight after playing 3rd string last week against Club Diana. Dave ended up chasing the game losing the first 2 sets. An uphill battle from here. The 3rd game got underway and Dave pulled it out of the bag and took a win in the 3rd with a closely fought 10-9. Dave being 2-1 down had it all to do. The 4th game Dave shot into a 5-0 lead and all seemed promising. His opponent desperate to get the score back managed to get it back to 3-8 with Dave certain to take the 4th game. His opponent did tremendously well and brought it back to 8-8. Set 2 was played and Dave's pre-match dinner came back to haunt him. Dave lost the 4th game 10-9 having served for the game twice and couldn't find a way through. Leaving his opponent a 3-1 win. Daventry 10-5 Saints.

The final game and with Daventry already victorious on the night, Stewart went on court a relaxed man as no pressure was to be applied on him. If anything a little too casual and lost the first game. Stewart came back on court 1-0 down to mean business and fired through games to take the match 3-1 leaving Daventry victorious 2 weeks running maintaining a 100% start to the season 16-6.

Man of the match I would say would have to be Terry, for overcoming his usual slow start to make sure his opponent was at the end of 3-0 defeat.

Next week travelling to Kettering Rugby in order to keep their unbeaten record going.
