2nd Team News and Match Reports

Week 1

2nd Team Vs Cripps 2

The start of the new season was upon us, and the 2nd team went out and delivered. A resounding win, 17 - 3, saw the team get the (almost) best possible start.

The team composition was as follows:

1: Nick Murley

2: Keith Morgan

3: Ryan Swadling

4: Andy Machin

5: Danny Carty

Danny Carty was up first at No. 5, and although started like he was already in the showers managed to claw himself back into the first game to 9 a piece, but unfortunately failed to capitalise on the momentum gained and lost the 1st game 9 - 10. This seemed to rattle Danny who then lost the 2nd game 2 - 9. On the ropes, but not wanting to go down without a fight, the comeback started ... the next game went Danny's way as he piped his opponent 9 - 7. Thankfully, this time, he carried the momentum into the following game and won that easily 9 - 0. Was this going to be the comeback we hoped for!? Down to the wire once again, 8 - 8, neither player wishing to concede the advantage to the other, fighting to the bitter end ... but it wasn't to be. 8 - 10 in favour of the Cripps player. It was a hard fought game, but importantly 2 team points gained.

Whilst Danny was slogging it out on court 5, Andy Machin took to the court in the 4th string match. Not having played much recently he needed a few points to clear the cobwebs out. Game 1 was won 9 - 4. Boyed by the first game he went out and stepped it up, winning the following game 9 - 2. And as if to prove a point, Andy then ran out the final game with a 9 - 0 win. 3 team points acquired - good job Andy!

Enter the youngster!! Ryan Swadling's introduction to county team squash couldn't have got off to a better start. Brushing off a few early nerves he went on to display why he is going to be a real prospect in Northants squash. Game 1 ended in a 9 - 5 win, followed by a very clean 9 - 0 win in game 2. Rounding the match off with a 9 - 3 win, and another 3 points for the team. Showing maturity and composure beyond his years, Ryan really is one to watch!

With 2 matches still to play and 1 more win needed for a team victory Keith Morgan and Nick Murley took to the courts. Both looking to replicate or better Andy and Ryans results. Keith started in suburb form winning 9 - 0, and not wanting to be out done Nick went out and did the same. Game 2; Keith keeping the tempo high recorded a 9 - 3 win ... once again Nick matched it! Going into the 3rd game each player looking to get one over on their team mates; Keith put in a very impressive display and won the game and the match 9 - 2, but ... proving why he is currently at number 1 Nick went one better and rounded off the evening with a 9 - 1 win.

With both results in the final Team result stood at Daventry 2 on 17 points, Cripps 2 on 3.

Next week we travel to Club Diana, and hope to replicate the result from this week.
